Just an ongoing list of my current kit and any comments on it…
Gadgets
- Garmin Forerunner 305
- Upgraded from the 205 so that I can also do cycling cadence. Same machine otherwise, still great. Not sure how I’d run without this now. It appeals to the gadget freak in me as well as the stat freak. The ultimate in tracking your runs and rides. I’d recommend this to anyone.
- iPod Nano (put in washing machine, doesn’t like that)
- When I go out solo, I absolutely love running with music. Just makes the whole outing idyllic. Not riding though, likely to crushed by a truck.
- After the washing machine fiasco, I am using either my mobile phone or an older mp3 player on runs. All in all, provides the same result without the flashy Nike+ aspect.
- So, I went and got an iPod iTouch which works great and is supposed to work with Nike+ stuff, although doesn’t very well.
- Nike+ Sportsband
- Ok, it was part of the Nano set up, but I now use the Nike+ Sportsband. It’s pretty simple, not great for tracking on the run, but the online aspect just gives that extra push to keep on running.
- Although now… it’s broken. Given up on the Nike+ fiasco.
Running Gear
- Brooks Glycerin shoes
- My current shoes. Stepped up to the next model and am liking them a lot for the long distances. Great shoes.
- Brooks Radium 7 shoes
- My 2nd current shoes. I tried some other make of shoes, all went horribly wrong, and I came back to Brooks and haven’t regretted it in any way. If you find comfortable shoes, stick with them.
- Brooks Radium 6 shoes
- My older, in the process of retiring, shoes. Lovely though, got me through miles and miles with few injuires hence…
- Ronhill running tights
- Sounds a bit… ok, not real tights but excellent for running in the colder months
The rest is a usual assortment of shorts, t-shirts, waterproof jackets and socks. Still trying out socks to find the most comfortable.
Other Stuff
- Camelback Runner’s Backsack
- An ideal running backsack, used without the camelback skin in the winter as a handy way to carry keys, bit of cash and mobile phone. Essential. Couldn’t carry anymore than that. And in the summer, easiest way of carrying 1.5L of water.
- Camelback Blowfish
- the big brother of my other bag. This one can take 3L of water and is a proper lightweight rucksack. I used it on my bike ride down through France from Le Havre to Calais in 5 days. Was perfect in the hot heat for keeping me hydrated.
